Drugs and Their Dangerous Effects on the Individual and Society

In order to educate its students about the dangers of drugs and their devastating impact on the individual and society, ASPU and  in cooperation with the National Union of Syrian Students (NUSS)  held an awareness seminar in  its headquarters in Baramakah .

The seminar  was attended  by Hussein Jumaa, Director of the Drug Control Department and Counselor Fares Sattouf, the Attorney General in the Syrian Arab Republic and forensic doctor Nasser al-Shaher.

In his speech , president of ASPU , Dr. Yasser Hourieh, said that this  event complies  with the university's social responsibility towards its students on the importance of educating them about the dangers of drugs and their impact on their lives and future.

Dr. Ammar Terkawi, ASPU  Dean of the Faculty of Law stressed the importance of the lecture in shedding light on this serious scourge and the ways in which Syrian law deals with it.

Mr. Hussein Jumaa, talked about the dangers of drugs to health and their physical, psychological, and social effects, showing their various effects on the nervous system, whether they are stimulants, sedatives, hypnotics or hallucinations.

He also talked  about the anti-drug policy in the Syrian Arab Republic, which includes fighting its supply through drug laws and reducing demand through awareness and treatment.

Counselor Fares Sattouf, pointed out that the problem of abuse in Syria emerged after the war on Syria, pointing to its causes and harms, and presented the history of the anti-drug law and its  deterrent penalties in cases of agriculture, industry, smuggling, trafficking and abuse.

In turn, Dr. Nasser al-Shaher pointed to the statistics of the World Health Organization, which indicated a significant increase in the number of drug users in the world, speaking about the mechanism of drugs in the body that works to increase dopamine and the reasons for the individual’s addiction and signs that appear on the addict and the abuser.

The seminar was attended by Dr. Muhammad Rahan al-Muhammad, Director of Organization and Administration in the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Muhammad al-Zoubi, Director of Judicial  Issues and Conduct Tracking Department at the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Saeed al-Nuhaili, Member of the Supreme Constitutional Court, Dr. Maher Melandi, Secretary of the Higher Education Council, and Dr. Fawaz al-Abdullah, Deputy Dean of the faculty  of Education , deans of ASPU faculties,  and the head of the National Union for Syrian Students at  ASPU , Majd al-Hamad and members of  ASPU administrative departments.
