ASPU President Dr. Yasser Hourieh, presided over the closing session of the Conference on Research Methodology and Scientific Publishing, held  at Damascus University.

Six  outstanding research papers were presented on clinical trials, systematic reviews, meta-analysis, arbitration of articles sent for publication, and the challenge of obtaining the award in scientific research, critical evaluation, and ethics of scientific research.

Then,  questions were put  by the attendees on  topics covered in the sessions, and the closing session management, researchers and winners among the participants were honored with posters.

Participants in the conference recommended the formation of research teams from various medical faculties  with efforts to support and train  new researchers.

They  called for integration between medical faculties  and strengthening the idea of ??joint supervision of research and specifying research axes for each department  of the  medical  faculties  and publishing them on the university's scientific website.

The  Participants, who are professors, researchers, and graduate students from public and private universities, research scientific bodies and centers, stressed the need to preserve research data and samples and adopt evidence-based medicine as an approach to clinical practice and to seek guidelines for work that make medical practice standard and improve the service provided to the patient.

They called for the establishment of a research unit to assist in the design and registration of research and clinical experiments , and a biostatistics unit to train researchers, as well as a technical unit specialized in correspondence with scientific organizations, so as to help in accessing own databases, and the need  to compel graduate students to publish research related to their theses and encourage them to publish their researches abroad.

The conference which  was opened at Damascus university auditorium  is considered the first of its kind in Syria. Its  participants discussed the principles, methods and methodology of scientific research and methods and rules for academic publishing and improving students  skills in medical faculties  .

It was recommended to convene similar conferences during the coming period for students of engineering , humanities and economic sciences faculties .
