Under the patronage Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr. Bassam Ibrahim, the supervision of ASPU President Dr. Sharif Al-Ashkar and the participation of the National Union of Syrian Students (NUSS), ASPU faculty of has organized the 1^st international dental conference under the slogan "Excellence and modernity in dentistry." The opening ceremony was held in Al-Assad Public Library in Damascus, with the participation of outstanding professors and doctors from Arab and foreign countries.

The conference has aimed primarily outstanding students at ASPU and the Syrian governmental and private universities, in order to highlight their practical capabilities and research potential, due to the importance of scientific conferences for universities, as it is a good opportunity to meet specialists and exchange experiences and ideas in various fields of dentistry. The importance of this specialized conference lies in opening new scientific horizons before them, to create a generation capable of participating and competing strongly in conferences inside and outside the country.

In an opening speech, the scientific organizer of the conference, Dr. Ghassan Baseet hailed the heroic Syrian army, who sacrificed their blood and soul for the sake of the homeland and extended a message of love and loyalty to President Bashar Al-Assad.

 He, on the other hand, spoke about challenges that faced the convening of this conference, under the Corona pandemic, as many of the participants and lecturers came from outside the Syrian Arab Republic, including six universities and five different countries.

Dr. Ashkar, for his part welcomed the honorable attendees from various Arab countries who came specially to participate in the conference, and stressed its importance in bringing together dentists, ASPU Dentistry students, and outstanding students in all Syrian public and private universities.

He noted the set goals of the conference in attaining modernity, distinction and development in the field of dentistry, and praised the achievements, innovations and efforts of the faculty and students that contributed to raising ASPU academic performance in a short time, noting that the conference has been coinciding with the people's celebrations of the presidential elections in Syria, stressing the need to continue the march of heroism and dignity with President Bashar Al-Assad.

Dean of ASPU faculty of  dentistry Dr.,Hazem Sawwaf, noted the importance of the conference in terms of timing and the valuable scientific results that will be attained  . He introduced the attendees with  ASPU faculty of dentistry   to that, though  it is not one of the oldest private universities  in Syria, yet it has been since its establishment adopted  the slogan that  "the dream begins with a vision and is realized with honest hands," and raised the values ??of work and dedication and that knowledge is the way. He explained that the battle had moved from the cannon and the rifle to be manifested in study and in the laboratories and scientific research, indicating that soldiers of this stage are the dear students.

Head of ASPU branch of the NUSS Majd Al-Hamad congratulated ASPU and the Faculty of Dentistry on this first of its kind scientific conference for serving the dental profession through its expected results and recommendations.

 He stressed that NUSS will remain a platform that offers all its capabilities for the sake of success and distinction to students and the Syrian Arab Republic, pledging “we will remain an impregnable fortress and we carry weapons in one hand and the pen in another hand in order to build our beloved homeland."

The conference activities included several seminars, theoretical and scientific lectures, workshops and training courses.

Dr. Fadi Abi Al-Lama’s first lecture was entitled “the Scientific Evidence for Oral Piety.”This was followed by a lecture by Dr. Elie Azar Maalouf entitled "Implants in the Aesthetic Area (Approaching Modern Concepts with Traditional Concepts).

Dr. Edmond Koues gave a lecture under the title "The Success and Longevity of Endodontic Treatment."

Dr. Talal Al-Dairi's lecture, entitled "Management of Roots junction injuries through regenerative surgery."

Dr. Salah Damer gave a lecture entitled "Uses of Bioceramic in Endodontic Therapy".

Dr. Sarah Moussa touched through her lecture on "the importance of 3D imaging in diagnosis and preparation of a treatment plan."

Dr. Antoine Choufani's lecture was entitled "Sterilization and control of infection in dental clinics in the Corona era."

The lectures were concluded with Dr. Muhannad Kazim, under the title "The Importance of Adherent Gums in Dental Implants."

The conference was attended by Dr. Shukri Al-Baba, Associate Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, ASPU President Dr. Sharif al-Ashkar , Fayez Stephan, member of NUSS  Executive Bureau Dr. Zakaria Al-Basha, President  Dentists Union in Syria, Dr. George Al Rayes, member of the Party Control and Inspection Committee , Dr. Muhammad Jalali, Chairman of ASPU  Board of Trustees Dr. Issa Makhoul, Member of ASPU Board of Trustees , Dr. Yasar Abdeen, President of Damascus University ,  Majd Al-Hamad, head of the ASPU Branch of the NUSS and several   university faculty deans and administrative directors .
