ASPU President Dr. Sharif Al-Ashkar and Dr. Claudio Ruff Escobar, President of the Chilean Bernardo O'Higgins University have signed a comprehensive academic scientific cooperation agreement.

On behalf of ASPU, the signing ceremony was attended by ASPU Vice-President of the Scientific Research Council and deans of  faculties the Chilean side by  university Vice President for Academic Affairs Mr. Jorge Eduardo Arias Garrido, Chargé d’Affairs Mr. Jose Patricio, Director of Public Relations Mr. Raul Gonzalo Peña Silva.

The agreement provided for the exchange of professors, researchers and students, and the exchange of scientific and teaching information, and issues pertinent to academic programs, diplomas and scientific courses, as well as the organization of scientific conferences and scientific and cultural cooperation activities.

The opening ceremony included a presentation on the university  history and foundation process , and the Chilean side talked about the university scientific research centers, and prospects of mutual cooperation in the field of scientific research between the two sides, most notably the Center for Historical Studies, the Center for Research in Education, the Center for Research in Astronomy and the Center Research and development of the aquatic ecosystem as well as an observatory in order to deal with natural risks  and accidents.

Dr. al-Ashkar, thanked the Chilean delegation, expressing hope to activate all the terms of the agreement for the common interest of both sides.
