Under the patronage of  Damascus University President Dr. Yasar Abdeen, and under the supervision of ASPU President Dr. Sharif Al-Ashkar, Dr. Nasser Saad eddin and Dr. Nabiha Hussain, university of medicine faculty members have participated in the workshop specialized in laser applications in various medical, industrial and engineering fields. The workshop was held at the premises of the Higher Institute of Laser Sciences and its Applications at Damascus University.

In a joint research, entitled Dr. Saad and Dr Hussain participated in a paper entitled "evaluation annealing conditions on the structural quality of Thin Films (Culnse 2) by Using Pulsed Laser to Improve the Solar Cells properties."

The importance of the research lies in shedding light on the use of laser as a modern technology in improving the properties of thin films (semi-conductors) which are  used in the manufacture of solar cells by using  laser-treated cells in improving the optical properties and high absorption of solar rays in an optimal way that distinguishes it from traditional annealing methods, reaching a remarkable high energy yield from the solar energy absorbed by these laser-treated cells into various forms of thermal or electrical energy . The importance of the research in the field of alternative energy and the manufacture of solar cells also lies in attaining high economic feasibility, especially under conditions of external economic pressures on Syria to prevent the provision of forms of energy, especially electrical energy, which represents the backbone of the local industry.

The workshop covered several topics, including (laser physics and technology, laser spectroscopy, biophotonics and medical applications, laser applications in dentistry, laser applications in physical communications, and applications of lasers in industrial fields).

Such highly advanced scientific participation by Dr. Saad and Dr. Hussain falls in the course of ASPU  keenness to contribute to scientific events ,and as a venue to publish most  important researches of its teaching staff.
