ASPU First Scientific Pharmaceutical Day: “Rational Use of Medicine”

In the presence of ASPU President  Dr. Sharif Al-Ashkar , Dr. Ziad Mazloum, Syrian Pharmacists  Union secretary , Dr. Sarhan Bashara treasurer of  the Syrian Pharmacists Union , Dean of the faculty of Pharmacy, Dr. Fayza Al-Qubili, and several faculty members,  the first scientific  pharmaceutical day under the title  “ rational use of  medicine” was opened on Wednesday, December 22,  at ASPU premises at al-Tal Campus. The event is in cooperation between ASPU, Campo Company and the Syrian Pharmacists Union

In an inaugural speech, Dr. Al-Qubili, welcomed the attendees and Dr. Mazloum stressed the importance of raising awareness of the correct use of medicines in the appropriate pharmaceutical form, especially among patients suffering from chronic diseases, heart diseases, pregnant women and children.

The lectures delivered by doctors, specialized in pharmaceutical sciences were under various titles.  Dr. Barakat Shaheen talked about the use of NSAIDs for heart patients, Dr. Dima Adwan talked about contraceptives, Dr. Mohamed Essam Hassan Agha talked about the side effects of plant medicines, and Dr. Basil Al-Hussein talked about rationalizing the use of medicine and the role of the pharmacist.

For her part, Dr. Rajwa Al-Jubaili talked about the foundations adopted in rationalizing the use of medicine, Dr. Wael Al-Agwani talked about dependence and drug addiction on central analgesics and CNS drugs, and Prof. Muhammad Maarouf talked about black fungus and the appropriate treatment, Dr. Muhammad Othman spoke about the rational use of nanomedicines, and Dr. Taghreed Aynieh from Campo Company concluded with a lecture on the role of medicinal herbs in relieving pain.

All the delivered lectures focused on the impact of various pharmaceutical compounds, whether chemical or natural, and their mechanism of action and interaction in the human body.

 The lectures talked about black fungus disease and the increase in the number of people infected with it, especially in light of the spread of the Corona pandemic.

Meanwhile, on behalf of ASPU President, Al-Qubili presented a shield of thanks and appreciation to the representative of the Syrian Pharmacists Union for the union’s active participation in the pharmaceutical scientific day.
