Under the patronage of the minister of higher education and scientific research Dr. Bassam Ibrahim, and the supervision of ASPU President Dr. Sharif al-Ashkar, the university faculty of dentistry, in cooperation with the National Union of Syrian Students NUSS, has organized the Second International Dental Conference under the slogan “Towards Creativity and Excellence in Dentistry”.  The conference which was held at al-Assad National Library in Damascus, was attended by professors and doctors from Arab and foreign countries.

The participants observed a minute of silence for the soul of the late president Hafez al-Assad, and for the souls of the nation's martyrs.

In an inaugural speech, the minister of higher education and scientific research said that the conference constitutes a qualitative and scientific addition to the development and modernization of higher education sector, noting that ASPU is one of the important national educational institutions under the umbrella of the higher education system.

Dr. al-Ashkar, welcomed members of Arab delegations taking part in the conference, noting the important role of universities in meeting the community’s scientific, practical, economic, cultural, social and even media needs. He expressed the belief that universities are academic institutions that lead the society by providing it with qualified and specialized human cadres, employing knowledge and scientific research to serve its requirements and address its problems.

Head of NUSS university branch Majd al-Hamad, stressed the importance of the   conference as a great opportunity for students to benefit from the expertise of scholars and the development and modernization and that ASPU offers all its capabilities to achieve this goal for the service of students

Dean of Damascus university faculty of dentistry Dr. Hazem Sawaf, pointed the importance of the conference in attaining valuable recommendations and scientific conclusions to come up level of dentistry in Syria and provide modern medicine with advanced cadres of efficiency and excellence.
