Under the slogan (Your Safety), and marking the World Traffic Day, ASPU students, in cooperation with the Traffic Department of the Ministry of Interior, the National Union of Syrian Students (NUSS) and the General Sports Federation, held a huge cycling marathon in Damascus.
The marathon which started from the end of the Mazzeh Highway, passing by the cabinet premises and Kafr Sousa roundabout, and all the way to the university’s headquarters in Baramkeh, was supervised by traffic officers with their bikes and cars and educational and administrative cadres.
In a press statement to (Tishreen daily), ASPU President Dr. Sharif Al-Ashkar, described the carnival as an appreciation and love from the university administration, its teaching and administrative staff and its students to traffic men for their great role in ensuring a safe traffic and in spreading traffic awareness among students and abidance to and implementation to public safety rules.
Director of the Traffic Department at the Ministry of Interior, Gen. Jihad al-Saadi, stressed the importance of the event which is jointly held in cooperation between the ministry traffic department and the university students, in contributing to strengthening bilateral relations so as to preserve lives and property through traffic awareness, and traffic Law enforcement.
Head of the university NUSS branch Majd al-Hamad said that this event stems from the fact that traffic awareness has become a necessary and urgent need for students, due to the increasing number of accidents, deaths, and violations that result from indifference in the application of traffic rules.
He noted that it has become necessary to bring together ASPU students with traffic police men in order to get acquainted with needed information, on the one hand and to maintain safety and security, which is the slogan of this event, in order to disseminate awareness and enhance competition.
Winners were honored at a ceremony held at the end of the marathon and sums awarded, and delivered speeches on traffic awareness, its etiquette and importance.
Noteworthy, ASPU will hold a traffic seminar on Saturday, at its amphitheater at the university headquarters in Baramkeh under the title (Traffic Awareness Means Your Safety). The event will be run by the director of the ministry traffic department and in the presence of the traffic media committee and university professors and students.
